Attractions

This vibrant and exciting southern city offers residents and visitors alike many interesting events and locales that are sure to appease every taste. From theater to ballet to a wide range of live bands there is just as much selection in entertainment here as there are vacant condominiums in North York. There is sure to be something for everyone to do in Jackson. Here are some of the top spots to visit.

The Alamo Theater is a local landmark, and has recently been designated a National Historic Register Landmark. The theater is happily located in the historic Farish Street District in Jackson. The theater seats over 500 people and when there are not shows to be seen, the space can be rented for any number of group functions. The theater itself has undergone many renovations and transformations over the years, and the present structure that now stands today was completed in the 1940s, and was built faster than the Leslieville homes. There are many new features to the building, including updates like new windows and tankless water heaters. This location is full of rich African American heritage, and was the original location for the Black communities performing arts shows such as Vaudeville acts, many types of performance art as well as stage bands and singers. Today there are many popular shows being produced in this theater, so a visit to the Alamo for a show will also be a bit of a history lesson as well.

The Farish Street District, where the theater is located is an excellent place to spend some time, whether or not you plan on catching a show at the Alamo. With many restaurants and cafes lining the quaint streets, there are many enticing aromas as you stroll the streets of the district. This along with fresh baked goodies from local bakeries, the finest meats from the delicatessens and interesting shops make this neighborhood a hot spot in the city for sure!

Another fabulous cultural venue in the city of Jackson is The Mississippi Arts Center. Home to Ballet Mississippi, which is one of Jackson's elite performing arts organizations, they provide educational outreach programs in conjunction with the Ballet Mississippi School to expose as many Mississippi students as possible to the artistry and beauty of classical ballet. The company's professionally trained premiere dancers perform the timeless classic 'The Nutcracker' each winter just in time for the holiday season, as well as a special Spring Gala that features new and innovative choreography and the countries best ballet dancers. Guest choreographers are invited to stage their work with the company, bringing loads of outside talent into the area. These special choreographers come from their Corktown lofts, Toronto based and from the hills of Hollywood to bring their talents to Jackson. Recently, Ballet Mississippi has become partners with Millsaps College to offer a credit course in ballet to interested students.

The best way to experience Jackson is through these unique and memorable attractions, you certainly will not forget a day spent at any one of these or many other Jackson attractions. You may want to reconsider purchasing Mississauga condos when you could be enjoying life in the fabulous city of Jackson.
